Hi everyone, my name is Matthew and I'm a full time chess entrepreneur who loves chess and is considered in the top 1% in the world competitively! I teach & instruct chess to kids, adults, host chess tournaments, run a non-profit chess club, and lastly hold chess events!
I run chess events to get more adults and kids to play chess in-person and decided for the first time to try running a chess event at a gaming expo. This led me to the Toronto Gaming Expo in 2024!
I honestly didn't know what to expect as this was my first time running chess at a gaming convention. This was also (I believe!) Toronto Gaming Expo's first time having someone run specifically chess at the convention. I wasn't selling anything - I just wanted people to play chess and have fun! I knew chess was popular in Toronto, but wasn't sure how it would turn out. Not even 5 minutes into the expo, this happened:

and then I started getting challenged to a game of chess by not just one player, or two players, or even three, but five players at a time! I started racing across the tables playing FIVE chess games at ONCE.
That lasted for 3 hours and 30 minutes - playing 5 chess games at a time against 28 chess players. Luckily I only lost once!
What to expect at the 2025 Toronto Gaming Expo March 29th and March 30th: More chess!
I'll be there on Saturday and Sunday with more tables, more chess boards and clocks, and more fun for everyone to get involved with chess! I hope to see you all there!
